ITIA Withdraws From Compliance Scheme Discussions

The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) has withdrawn from discussions with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government (DoEHLG) on the new waste tyre compliance scheme for the tyre industry. The National Executive Council (NEC) of the ITIA met today. The NEC of the ITIA has always fully engaged positively in all committees and working groups in the setting up a new compliance scheme.

However, as a result of the most recent communications from the DoEHLG, the NEC has decided to withdraw from all compliance scheme working groups with immediate effect. The NEC felt that their concerns were not being addressed or listened to in any meaningful fashion.

The NEC remains committed to the introduction of a fit for purpose compliance scheme.

The Irish Tyre Industry Association was formed in 1998 to unite all sectors of the tyre industry – manufacturers, importers, remoulders, wholesalers, retailers and equipment suppliers under a single ‘umbrella.’
