2020 Tyre Technician Training Development Programme
The ITIA Tyre Technician Training Development Programme has been introduced to raise the standard of tyre technicians throughout Ireland and to ensure that all ITIA member organisations are providing best in class service to all consumers. This programme is a form of self-regulation for the tyre retail industry and represents a very exciting opportunity for both employers and employees in that it improves the mobility of tyre technicians by providing them with a nationally recognised licence designed to demonstrate their competency. Similar self-regulation schemes have proven highly effective in other industries. This programme has been designed by industry for industry and is in direct response to a training needs analysis carried out with members.
ITIA is delighted to have teamed up with Athlone Training Centre to deliver the Tyre Technician Training Development Programme (TTTDP). The Athlone Training Centre is part of Longford Westmeath Education Training Board and is committed to delivering an extensive range of training courses to its clients. These clients include persons entering the labour market for the first time, persons changing career, persons wishing to up-date or acquire new skills and early school leavers. This programme will receive partial funding from Skills to Advance, which is a new policy framework supporting working lives and enterprise growth in Ireland from SOLAS.
The Athlone Training Centre has a fully equipped motor area, excellent training classrooms, conference facilities and canteen services for all attendees. As the training centre already delivers training for motor mechanics, the expertise in this area will be used to deliver the majority of the modules. Unique to this programme is that it will be supplemented by guest lectures from motor industry specialists and experts in the areas of road safety, H&S and legislation. Our current REACT (Roadside Emergency Action Concerning Tyres) training which is jointly accredited by ITIA and our UK counterparts NTDA will also be included in the programme. This will provide specific comprehensive training to ensure tyre fitters and repairers keep safe in carrying out their work on our motorways.
Over the period of the programme technicians will build up a portfolio of certificates which will lead to an ITIA Approved Tyre Technician certificate in association with Athlone Training Centre. This qualification will also be recognised in the UK by NTDA providing all technicians with transferrable skills.
ITIA is committed to raising the standard of those working in the industry by developing comprehensive professional development programmes for all levels of participants in the industry. This programme will be a significant contributing factor to this as it will deliver expert technicians both for our member companies and the industry as a whole.
The programme will re-commence on February 13th 2020 and further dates are available here. If you are interested in attending please send your details to firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 045 894698/087 9013311
