As our weather conditions are deteriorating RSA has issued an UPDATE Road Safety Alert which gives comprehensive advice in how to  stay safe on our roads–

Status RED and Orange for Snow & Wind.  Please stay safe on our roads over the coming bad spell.

Wednesday 28 February @ 2.30pm. Met Eireann has upgraded its severe weather rating for Storm Emma to Orange and Red in various parts of the country. The warnings are in place for wind and snow, with blizzard conditions in some parts of the country that will result in significant accumulations of snow.

The Red warning that has been put in place applies to counties in Munster (Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford) and Leinster (Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow).

Blizzard-like conditions will develop in heavy snow and strong easterly winds on Thursday evening and will continue Thursday night and Friday morning giving significant snow drifts in many areas. The Red warning is valid from 16:00 hours Thu, 01-Mar-2018 until 12:00 hours Fri, 02-Mar-2018.

Road users are being advised not to make any unnecessary journeys, or be outside, in areas covered by, and during the period of, the Red weather warning.

An Orange warning has been put in place for counties Cavan and Monaghan including counties in Connacht (Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo). It is forecast that persistent snow will develop on Thursday night and will continue into Friday in these areas. Together with strong easterly winds this may lead to snow drifts.
